Our popular Scottish evening has been expanded to include an Australian element – a reflection of two of the 25-plus different nationalities represented in our diverse congregation. There will be a quiz, music, dancing and refreshments typical of those cultures.
Why Burns Night and Australia Day together?
Burns Night celebrates Scotland’s famous poet Robert Burns. It is held on or near his January 25th birthday. It is marked by food, drink, music and poetry readings.
Australia Day is the official National Day of Australia, celebrated on January 26th to mark the arrival of British ships in 1788, but today it is a celebration of Australia’s diversity.
This event promises to be great fun for the whole family. There will be a small 5-euro entry fee to cover costs, with any proceeds going to support the ongoing charitable work of St George’s.
