Friday, 1st March, 11am
This year’s World Day of Prayer takes place on Friday, 1st March, 11am, at St George’s and will be led by Dorothy Prenafeta. The theme is ‘Come, Everything is Ready,’ and the program was written by the Christian women of Slovenia.
The World Day of Prayer is a global ecumenical movement led by Christian women who join in prayer and action for peace and justice.
At the core of this year’s theme is an invitation: come to praise, thank and proclaim the kingdom of love.
The invitation is grounded in ‘The Parable of the Great Banquet’ (Luke 14:15-24). There was a great banquet. The invited guests excused themselves, so the hosts went out and called in people off the streets. The message is: there’s still room. Who is missing from the table in your community? How would you invite them in and prepare the feast?
This year’s stories reflect the socio-political situation from when Slovenia was a communist state until today. They express the voices of refugees, migrant workers and the Roma people.
We ask for forgiveness for being silent in the face of injustice, and we pray that God will open our hearts to compassion and understanding.
May the welcoming God enable us to set the table and fill our communities with hope, love and joy!
