BAPTISMS / CHRISTENINGS
Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God. For all involved, particularly the candidates but also parents, godparents and supporters, it is a joyful moment when we make serious promises and declare the Christian faith. The wider community of St George’s and friends welcome the baptized person into the community of faith. For all these reasons, baptisms usually take place within one of our regular Sunday services, although separate ceremonies are possible.
We celebrate the baptisms of both children and adults, and also offer an Affirmation of Baptismal Promises for those wishing to renew promises made on their behalf. Baptismal candidates (if of age) or their parents will receive preparation before the celebration.
THANKSGIVING FOR THE GIFT OF A CHILD
The birth or adoption of a child is cause for celebration. This service provides an opportunity for parents and families to give thanks for the birth or adoption of a child and to pray for family life. It can be a separate ceremony but usually takes place as part of a regular Sunday service. It is not the same as baptism, which is the sacrament of initiation into membership of the Church.
Please note:
For services of Baptism/Christening or Thanksgiving, no fees are payable.
However, St George’s is an entirely self-financing church and donations are always welcome.
For further details or to book one of these services, please contact the Chaplain or Church Administrator.
