Sunday School

The youth ministry focus is to help the youth of St George’s (between the ages of 3 and 17) to grow in their understanding of the Christian faith while creating an environment that fosters friendships with Christian peers.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Everyone begins the Sunday service together, and after opening worship the children leave the main service to attend their own groups as follows:

Under 3: parents take care of their own children in the lounge

3-4 year olds: Bubbles group led by Judith

5-7 year olds: Splash group led by Denise with Ed

8-10 year olds: Xstream group led by Denise with Ed

11-plus: Youth group led by Jennie Hebson

The children learn about Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit through games, Bible stories, crafts, singing and praying together. Every year the children also stage a Christmas presentation.

Every class has an assistant as well as a teacher, so there is never only one adult left alone with children. All children’s workers go through a careful vetting process in line with the Child Protection regulations of the Church of England. We take their safety seriously.

SAFEGUARDING POLICY

The protection of children and other vulnerable groups is a matter of top priority for our church. St George’s requires that all pastoral care visitors, Sunday School teachers, regular volunteers, youth leaders and all paid staff, clergy and readers have been properly vetted and will only allow those people who produce a clear certificate to work with children and other vulnerable groups. All volunteers and paid staff will be given appropriate training in safeguarding vulnerable groups, together with the necessary guidance and supervision.
